Five Reasons This Made Me Fall In Love With M.I.A.
1. She is a black, English (and former Sri Lankan refugee) girl performing at The Superbowl. Do you know how often Americans give a shit about someone who isn’t American? Why do you think they had to remake Skins? Americans like Americans. Most Americans are also white, Christian and like white, American Christians.
NOT black, foreign girls sticking their finger up on the most watched sporting event on the planet.
Appalling to them, absolutely liberating to every single black and/ or foreign person wanting to make it in America.
2. I’m sure being asked to perform at the Superbowl was the biggest thing that has ever happened for M.I.A., as I said it is the biggest sporting event in the world. She is such a smart business woman, that she caused controversy.
Although she is already internationally renowned - this shit is going to put her on the map. EVERYONE knows who she is. EVERY SINGLE PERSON that watched the Superbowl now knows who M.I.A. is.
Smart woman.
3. Her attitude is just incredible. She is an entrepreneurial powerhouse. She is a Mother. She is a refugee. She is a rapper. She is a songwriter.
She runs this shit, and I think it’s fantastic. She has it all and doesn’t feel the need to curb her attitude for censoring purposes, or tone it down because of American conservativism.
4. The dancers are extremely sexualised, which we are all used to. We all watch music videos.
Let’s objectify these woman - oh no wait… one of them just said she doesn’t give a shit. Wait - is that allowed? Why is this woman covering her junk? Why isn’t she gyrating on the ground? Why is she flipping the bird? Why isn’t she bringing me a beer on Superbowl day? THAT IS SO FUCKING OFFENSIVE!
Because she. doesn’t. give. a. shit.
She is beautiful and talented and intelligent and doesn’t feel the need to be objectified to gain recognition and/or notoriety.
5. I also love anything that laughs in the face of American republican conservativism. The fact that we have to tone everything down to make it more appealing to the 60 year old male, Christian republicans just baffles me.
As an American, I love America. I also understand that it is a mound of dirt covered in glitter.
I love nothing more than seeing a chick who has it all doing exactly what she wants, when she wants and owning that shit.

UEFA champions league final is actually the most viewed, and im pretty sure the world cup (soccer) beats the superbowl too.
also, while M.I.A is better than a lot of her peers, she is still a corporate puppet. dont forget she is on interscope records, owned by universal music (the largest record company at the moment controlling 31% of the music market) all this will mean more money for them than for her.
and even though they say they want to tone everything down, the big corporations of america LOVE controversy, as it makes them more money.
while this is getting a lot of attention (fuck knows why) most people (generally) arent looking for a great unique artist, thus, minaj and madonna will still get more from this than her. this is a good push for her career, but its not as impressive as the original poster seems to be about it.
